About the wine

The predecessor of the company is a family winery founded in 2000 by oenologist Dr. Leo Gracin and his father Ante. Partners Ivan Ratković and Lado Skorin joined in 2006 and founded the new Suha Punta winery together. In 2006, the first Babić wine came onto the market. His quality immediately brought him to the top. It not only became by far the best Babić on the market, but was also one of the best Croatian red wines.

Tasting note
At first glance, the average Babić is not particularly intense due to the medium accentuated primary notes of herbs, sour cherries, dried plums and blackberries. However, when the grapes are fully ripe, the fruit aromas increase quickly, and after the wine is aged in oak barrels, the aromas become complex and very pleasant. This is also typical of other great varieties such as Syrah. Babić should not be made as a light wine. Its increased acids blend perfectly with the high alcohol content and ripe tannins, making the wine full-bodied and very strong, yet soft and delicious at the same time. Less alcohol would result in a lighter body, acids would come to the fore, the wine would be refreshing but unbalanced. The fullness is reinforced by malolactic fermentation, which calms the acids and finally rounds off the extreme elements that such a wine naturally has.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled tuna or venison stew with gnocchi.
Vinification
Only the best grapes are used for this wonderful baby. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed and immediately fermented in wooden fermentation containers and stainless steel tanks. Ageing and refining for approx. 12 months in new or one to two-year French barriques, followed by a further twelve months of bottle aging.
