Tasting note
In many places in Maremma, it is too warm to grow Sangiovese, in contrast to higher areas such as Montalcino or Chianti Classico. Vittorio Moretti was looking for plots where the Tuscan primeval vine could grow well. Alto, high, is also the name of the pure Sangiovese from Petra. After cold maceration and long maceration in 10,000 liter wooden stands, the wine is aged in 600-liter oak barrels for 18 months. It takes another long time until the first bottles go on sale. Alto has earthy notes on the nose and smells of jam, cocoa and ripe cherries. Minerality is noticeable on the palate, and tannin shapes the balanced body. The rich, well-structured red wine can be stored for an extremely long time.
Culinary recommendation
