About the wine
With sensitivity and intuition, the winemaker from the Austrian winery Josef Pöckl masters this red wine in the picturesque countryside of Burgenland. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this Cabernet Sauvignon with ribeye steak or Gruyère burger.

Tasting note
Composed of 60% Zweigelt, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in new French barriques. The nose shows aromas of black cherries, dark berries and ripe plums, spicy with a fine touch of precious wood and some nougat. Tangy tannin structure on the palate, demanding, with lots of pressure, flattering extract sweetness and long, fine mineral aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Great accompaniment to hearty meat dishes, e.g. pot roast with potato and celery puree, oven-baked lamb shoulder, or game dishes. Also great with hard cheese.
Vinification
Angaben über Vinifizierung: Seit über 20 Jahren gibt es den Admiral. Benannt nach einem Schmetterling (Vanessa atalanta), der in Pöckl’s Weingärten heimisch ist, wurde er anfangs reinsortig ausgebaut. Seit vielen Jahren aber ist der Admiral eine Cuvée, gestützt auf Zweigelt und je nach Jahrgang mit variierenden Anteilen von Merlot und Cabernet Sauvignon verfeinert. Die Trauben für diesen Wein wachsen auf lehmigen Schotterböden und Sandböden und reifen nach der Ernte für 18 Monate in neuen Barrique-Fässern.
