About the wine
The Avignonesi company owes its name to the historic founding family. After decades of research and development, the house established itself as one of the most important wine houses in Tuscany. The aim was to reveal the essence of Montepulciano's terroir. In 2009, Belgian Virginie Saverys took over Avignonesi and introduced the methods of organic viticulture. Avignonesi thus produces distinctive and even more stylish wines based on the Sangiovese vine on an impressive 107 hectares of vineyards.

Tasting note
Unique in the Italian wine world at the highest quality level is this 50 & 50 (cinquanta cinquanta), whose somewhat unusual wine name is also the concept of the two initiators. The formula is as simple as it is convincing: Avignonesi supplies the best Merlot grapes for this wine creation - a special blend - and the Capannelle winery supplies the Sangiovese grape. The result is impressive: A large Tuscan is announced in an intense, complex bouquet. The nose reveals aromas of ripe fruit, fine spices, tobacco, leather and roasted aromas: everything is very finely coordinated and sustainable, compact. The dense, velvety tannin texture appears after a few years of bottle aging with lots of melting and interwoven tannins. On the palate and in the long-lasting finish, it harmonizes with the profound fruit structure.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with game, cheese, polenta, veal steak, lamb steak, braised beef roast, brasato, beef filet stroganoff, beef steak, pork steak.
Vinification
Aged in barriques for 18 months, then aged in bottle for a further 18 months.
