About the wine
Warwick Estate is a high-quality South African winery in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. It has a rich history dating back to 1771. From 1771 to 1902, Warwick was known as Bauernhof De Goede Sukses”. After the Boer War ended in 1902, Colonel William Alexander Gordon, Commanding Officer of the Warwick SHIRE regiment, bought the historic farm. He renamed it “Warwick” as a tribute to his regiment. In 1964, Norma & Stan Ratcliffe developed the land with a great focus on the planting of Bordeaux varieties, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Over the years, the winery has won many prestigious wine awards and has become a firm icon. In 2017, Warwick was acquired by Charles Marston and Kishore Bopardikar through Eileses Capital, their investment fund with the aim of building on the significant Warwick Foundation and taking the property to a new level of global recognition. This was followed by the acquisition of the neighboring Uitkyk winery in Distell. This purchase effectively expanded the Warwick footprint to over 700 hectares of first-class Simonsberg, Stellenbosch terroir. The Simonsberg Mountains are located in the center of the Cape Winelands, approximately 45 km from Cape Town. These distinctive mountains rise almost 1400 meters above sea level and offer a spectacular variety of slopes and climbs.
