About the product

The current Tobermory distillery in an idyllic location is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull and one of Scotland's oldest commercial distilleries. It was founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as a Ledaig distillery (pronounced ledchigg — Gaelic for “safe haven”). Tobermory's past is as colorful as the town's seaside promenade. An eventful history marked by closures and financial difficulties. Prize-winning single malt Scotch whiskies have been maturing in the listed warehouses since 1993. The distillery produces two different malts, which are each produced for half a year: the unpeated “Tobermory” and the heavy peated “Ledaig” single malt Scotch. Both come from the same stills, but different barley is used for their production.

Tasting note
Inspired by Tobermory Distillery founder John Sinclair. Made from heavily peated barley, then aged in ex-bourbon barrels and refined in handpicked Spanish Rioja barrels, this single malt contains powerful aromas of smoke, spices, grapes and sweet berries with a lingering saltiness.
Vinification
Today's Tobermory Distillery, idyllically located on the Hebrides Island, is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull and one of Scotland's oldest commercial distilleries. It was founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as a Ledaig distillery (pronounced ledchigg; Gaelic for “safe haven”). Tobermory's past is as colorful as the town's seaside promenade. An eventful history marked by closures and financial difficulties. Since 1993, this precious gem has been flourishing again as part of Burn Stewart Distillers, and award-winning single malt Scotch whiskies have matured in the listed warehouses. The distillery produces two different malts, each made for half a year: unpeated “Tobermory” and the heavy peated “Ledaig” single Scotch. Both come from the same stills and washbacks, but different barley is used The Ledaig single malts stand for sweet and smoky whiskies with an impressive personality. Only heavily peated malt is used for this purpose — the result is a treat with a wonderful maritime character.
