Tasting note
A vibrant, deep red color. The nose is spicy and wild, with red berries, lavender, thyme and rosemary. It is inky and wild, but has a nice freshness and concentration on the middle palate. It has a fleshy character, surrounded by rich dark spices and chocolate. It is elegant and powerful, with a youthful freshness but a deep concentration and a structured, firm tannin profile.
Culinary recommendation
This wine goes well with rich red meat dishes, red wine risotto or aged cheeses.
Vinification
David Trafford's Sijnn Project is located in Malgas on the Breede River. Forty kilometers from all other vineyards, the immensely rocky soil and microclimate influenced by the Breede River is unique in South Africa. The Sijnn Red was aged for 18 months in wooden barrels, 20% of which were new.
