The gentle giant Donovan Rall has traveled a long way as a winemaker, but has found his inspiration in the Mediterranean grape varieties in Swartland. After graduating in viticulture and enology from Stellenbosch University in 2005 and extensive travel and harvesting in other regions, Donovan Rall returned to South Africa in 2007 to spend a season in Swartland. Here he worked on realizing his dream of producing unique and natural wines under his own label, which are produced in small batches - never more than 1000 cases - from good fruit from some of the oldest vineyards in Swartland and Stellenbosch. He started with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Viognier for a white wine blend and Syrah, Mouvedre and Grenache for his red wine blend, but now he also produces several single-variety wines. Winemaking is simple, with each plot allowed to ferment and mature naturally before blending. The wines are full of character and complexity, we can assure you that they are the classics of the future. The wine aged in old French oak for 12 months before being bottled unembellished and almost unfiltered and aged in the bottle for a further 18 months before being released.
