About the wine
Winegrowing in Höngg has a tradition that is not measured in decades but in thousands of years. Finds from ancient times suggest that the Romans were already cultivating vines here. In 1869, Höngg was the third largest wine-growing community in the canton of Zurich. After the phylloxera raging, the vineyard area fell to a few hectares, which were finally completely cleared during the war. In 1969, the city rebuilt the distinctive Chillesteig vineyard below the Höngg church. It was the culmination of a project in which Heinrich Zweifel (1904 — 1987) was significantly involved for twelve years.
