About the wine
With the fine Pago Gran Reserva DO from 2012, you will positively surprise your guests. With sensitivity and intuition, the winemaker from the Spanish winery Vina Sastre masters this red wine in the picturesque and beautiful landscape of the Duero Valley (Castilla y Leon).

Tasting note
In addition to the Pago de Santa Cruz, Sastre also produces a Gran Reserva from the same location. This is only pressed in small quantities and was only produced for the American market for a long time. For a few years now, a few bottles have also been sold on the European market. This Gran Reserva is a rich cherry red with a slightly brightening edge. On the nose, an aromatic potpourri of ripe red berries, dried plums and orange peel paired with spicy notes of cocoa, pipe tobacco and some licorice delights. The palate is full-bodied and dense with lots of red fruit, sweet spicy notes, some cocoa and cedarwood and fine-grained, soft tannins. The aftertaste is long-lasting and complex. A top wine with great storage potential.

Perfect for festive meals and hearty meat dishes such as beef, game or lamb.
Vinification
The grapes for Pago Gran Reserva come from a single vineyard called Santa Cruz, which is located at an altitude of 840 meters above sea level along the Duero River. The vines are on average 80 years old. When caring for the vineyards, no chemicals are used. The wine is aged for 30 months partly in American oak and partly in French barriques before maturing in the bottle for at least two more years before the start of sales.
