About the wine
The municipality of Olmedillo de Roa occupies a special position in the Ribera del Duero growing region: Thanks to the slightly elevated location, the grapes here suffer less from the heat, which makes the wines fresher and less lush. It's no wonder that star winemaker Peter Sisseck sourced the grapes for his legendary PINGUS (Spain's most expensive wine) from the over 80-year-old vineyards of José Luis Escudero and César Martin, among others. A few years ago, the two enthusiasts founded their own winery under the name Pagos de Matanegra and pressed their great grapes themselves — with resounding success: The Matanegra Vendimia Selecionada 2009 was named the best new Spaniard by the trade magazine “Hotelier” with a dream score of 19.2!
