Liù Rosso Toscana IGT/bd 2020 - Castello dei Rampolla

The siblings Maurizia and Luca Di Napoli have been cultivating their Castello dei Rampolla vines in accordance with biodynamic rules for almost 30 years. As with all wines from Castello dei Rampolla declare on the back label that the wine is not filtered and comes from natural vineyards - this is because they do not want to put themselves or their wines through the laborious organic and biodynamic certification process. This is also the case with Merlot, which was bottled pure for the first time in the 2018 vintage, after being matured partly in amphorae and partly in traditional concrete vessels. Den Maurizia found the character of this wine to be very “feminine” and so she and her brother gave it the name “Liù”, homage to her mother Livia, who from her Husband Aleco Di Napoli was affectionately called Liù. The wine is deep red in color, the aromas are reminiscent of black currants, very strong with the merlot character of the ripest. On the palate, Rasse plays with some rustic tannins, but overall a complex wine with a promising future.
