About the wine

Founded in 1916 by Juan Gil Jiménez, the winery is now managed by the fourth generation and has been not only part but also a cornerstone of the Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares since 2002. The wines of the bodega have permanently changed the image of the Jumilla region and the entire wine country of Spain. These pioneers of modernity still stand today for freshness coveted as they did in the past. | | The philosophy - vineyards up to 100 years old with low yields lay the basis for concentrated, full-bodied yet balanced wines full of fruit. This is also based on an unwavering belief in the Monastrell. 100 years of viticulture experience with this autochthonous grape variety can be found in every bottle - one of the reasons why the famous Juan Gil 12 Meses was often copied but never equaled.

Tasting note
A classic and one of our most popular wines in the range! And rightly so, it offers an enormous amount of wine pleasure for the money and this without being trivial or interchangeable. In the glass, it smells with an intense, dark fruit note; cherries and cherry juice come to mind. In addition, notes of coconut and flowers also shimmer through. Rich and pleasantly full-bodied and full, nice pressure, soft, fine-grained tannin, beautifully balanced of fresh and juicy acidity and fine, long-lasting cherry fruit.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: Enjoy this red wine at a slightly chilled 15°-17°C. Flaschenpöstler tip: Monastrell 12 Month Juan Gil goes great with sausages, spare ribs and polenta.
Vinification
The grapes for this wine come from old vines from our own vineyards. The calcareous and rocky terroir, very poor in nutrients, is ideal for the development of the Monastrell grape. Fermented in small steel tanks and then aged in French barriques for 12 months. Free from animal products - vegan certified.
