About the product

The Highland Park distillery is located on the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland. It was officially founded in 1798, but smuggler Magnus Eunson secretly distilled whiskey there before that. For over 220 years, Highland Park has remained true to its high quality standards. Five cornerstones characterize the whiskey: aromatic peat from the Hobbister Moor, a traditional barn malting plant, selected sherry oak barrels, ideal aging conditions in the island climate and slow barrel harmonization. These elements give Highland Park its unique character — a subtle, smoky sweetness that still honors the distillery's Viking roots today.

Tasting note
In collaboration with renowned Danish designer Jim Lyngvild, Highland Park VALFATHER is the third in the VIKING LEGENDS trilogy, which is inspired by the rich history and mythology of the Vikings. The Valfather edition, named after the highest Norse god Odin, is the most peaty bottling of Highland Park to date. It was created with the distillery's own 100% refill barrels and owes them its ethereal and light notes, which are reminiscent of Odin's home in Valhalla. The intense phenolic notes of whiskey embody its tremendous power.
Vinification
Scotland's northernmost distillery The Highland Park distillery is located on the Orkney Islands off the northernmost tip of Scotland. Their whiskeys, as well as their island home, are shaped by the wild climate, the stormy seas and the Vikings, who settled here over 1,000 years ago and left their mark on people and culture. Magnus Eunson, founder of Highland Park was a direct descendant of the Vikings. Butchers and church workers by day, smugglers by night, he distilled in a small hut near High Park with a view of Kirkwall — where the distillery still stands today. Officially, Highland Park was founded in 1798, but in reality this was the year in which the authorities were finally able to catch Magnus — whiskey had already been made before that. With the exception of smuggling, very little has changed since then. Highland Park remained true to its founder's high quality standards and shares with him his bold and uncompromising approach. In fact, you could say that Highland Park is a whiskey made the old way by a new generation of Vikings. The five pillars of Highland Park are: aromatic peat, hand-malted barley, sherry oak barrels, cool storage, barrel harmonization.
