About the wine
With its tourist stronghold Venice, Veneto, in the local language of Veneto, is one of Italy's most popular wine regions — and one of the country's three largest. Geographically, Veneto is extremely diverse: On the one hand, a third is covered by mountain ranges, on the other hand, the region has extensive rice fields and a large coastal strip on the central plain. The Venetian wines are correspondingly varied. A rocky and calcareous soil covered with red and brown soil offers the vines good growing conditions, the Alps, whose foothills border the extensive area in the north, protect the area from the harsher northern European weather and ensure a balanced climate. On the warmer plains on the Adriatic coast, mainly red grape varieties are grown; the cooler zones produce excellent white wines, of which Prosecco is undoubtedly the most famous.
