On the nose, the aromas of hot, sweet mash are unmistakable and transport you to the courtyard of the Bruichladdich Distillery. This soft, bisque malt is followed by peat smoke and a selection of sweet, pitted fruits, ripe apricots, peaches and pears drizzled with honey. Candied lemon peels add a touch of citrus, which is balanced by caramel, honeycomb, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream. Delicate oak notes are immediately revealed, followed by the presence of smoldering peat. Floral notes of gorse and honeysuckle rise above the malty barley from Islay, which is rich and sweet and reminiscent of creamy porridge and grains. The structure of French oak and the sweet vanilla and toffee of American oak combine wonderfully and bring a harmonious balance to the palate.
