Tasting note
This Basel producer Merlot is dark ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, aromas of ripe plums, blackberries and black cherries paired with light roasted aromas and spicy notes of tobacco and laurel inspire. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and harmonious with lots of dark fruit, sweet spicy notes, juicy acidity, fine-grained tannins and a long-lasting and elegant finish. A charming Merlot from our region with good storage potential.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with hearty meat dishes, regional specialities, barbecues, all kinds of stews and cheese.
Vinification
The grapes for this Merlot come primarily from the sunny village of Maisprach. After careful handpicking, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in open vats. This was followed by malolactic fermentation and 12-14 months of aging in new French barriques. From the first vintage of 2019, a total of only around 700 bottles were produced. The sites planted in Maisprach a few years ago are slowly yielding, so that the quantity can be increased slightly year by year.
