About the wine

The Masseria Li Veli, located in Salentino, was built at the beginning of the twentieth century by Antonio De Viti De Marco as a model cantina for the whole of southern Italy. About ten years ago, the Falvo family acquired this estate from the founders of Avignonesi in Montepulciano. The vineyards have been replanted with Puglia's traditional varieties Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera and Primitivo. All vineyards were created in the tradition of Salento using the Alberello technique (trees). This elaborate breeding method only allows manual work. Regular and perfect ripening of the grapes is the reward for the increased effort. The wineries have now also been carefully restored and equipped with the latest technology. The results of the efforts show that it is also possible to produce wines of great elegance in the extreme south of Puglia. Since 2005, all grapes from Li Veli have been certified organic. Their wines embody the combination of character, typicity, harmony and elegance. The young wines should be harmonious and lively, and the more structured wines should express their particular elegance and complexity over time. Pezzo Morgana is the name of the vineyard, around which there are centenary olive trees.

Tasting note
Deep, brownish dark red with amber shimmer, the intense aromatic structure and the scent of dried and candied fruits are immediately apparent in the bouquet. There are also notes of Mediterranean herbs and café liqueur. The palate is full, dense and spicy, with notes of mocha and rosemary and a wonderfully balanced combination of sweetness and acidity. A great and very special meditation wine!
Culinary recommendation
This special dessert wine is an excellent accompaniment to cantucci or other almond pastries, very ripe and spicy cheeses, chocolate and mocha mousses and a nice cigar. Enjoy from large Bordeaux glasses!
Vinification
Strict selection of the ripest grapes by hand already in the vineyard. Temperature-controlled drying of the grapes in baskets for 45 days. Natural fermentation for three weeks in large wooden barrels (500 l). The wine is aged for at least 42 months in small oak barrels of 112 l. After a further rest period in steel tanks, during which residual sediments are deposited, no further filtration is necessary.
