About the wine

The story of the Zlatan Otok winery begins in the small village of Sveta Nedjelja on the island of Hvar in Croatia. These beautiful vineyards are located on the island's unique southern slopes, where the Augustinian monks began growing grapes as early as the 16th century. The founder of this winery and father of the current owners, Zlatan Plenković, was a fisherman and was born in the village of Sveta Nedjelja. He founded a small family business and bottled his first bottle of wine in 1986. In 1991, the family founded the company Vitis, which changed the name to Zlatan Otok two years later. Zlatan Plenković passed on his knowledge and love of wine to his children at an early age. Marin and Nikola Plenković, the children, became partners and founded the sister company Vinoline. Vinoline is the largest family winery and is located near the town of Šibenik. Today, Marin and Nikola Plenković own more than 120 hectares of vineyards on the island and the mainland. They also buy grapes from another 50 hectares from subcontractors. They select these particularly carefully.

Tasting note
This is an expressive, elegant wine with Dalmatian character — full-bodied and velvety tannins. Rich, complex structures, aroma of plums, cherries, spices and Mediterranean scrub. A wine with a rich body, full flavor and a long-lasting, harmonious finish. High-quality dry red wine made from selected Plavac Mali grapes from the unique southern locations of Sveta Nedjelja on the island of Hvar. After manually harvesting and processing the grapes, the wine ages in oak barrels for 15 to 20 months and in the bottle for a further 6 months.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with lamb, barbecues, and meat dishes with strong sauces.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place under temperature control in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is then aged for twelve to 12 months in French barriques and in the bottle for a further six months.
