About the wine
Perched high above the majestic banks of the Douro, Quinta Boavista is an iconic winery dedicated entirely to expressing its terroir. Under the direction of Ricardo Macedo and with the expertise of Jean-Claude Berrouet — the legendary oenologist from Château Pétrus — red wines of great depth, balance and elegance are produced here. Each cuvée embodies the constant quest for excellence and combines Portuguese tradition with Bordeaux expertise to develop the full complexity of the great Douro wines. Near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro, Quinta da Boavista offers breathtaking views of the river. It is one of the most important wineries in the delimited region, known for its historical heritage — in particular the connection to Baron Forrester — and its 36 hectares of first-class vineyards. Among its most valuable plots, Vinha do Ujo is considered a living testimony to decades of dedication to a unique and charismatic terroir. The vineyard was built in 1930 on horizontal terraces supported by small slate walls in the pre-phylloxera style. With over 25 local grape varieties, it preserves a rare diversity that can only be found in such old vineyards. The small, north-facing terraces at an altitude of 180 to 210 meters are maintained year after year with great care by experienced hands who live the Douro day after day.
