About the wine

In our search for small, unknown producers who produce exceptional wines, we came across Pago de Vallegarcía. The ambitious project was initiated by entrepreneur and wine lover Alfonso Cortina. He really didn't leave anything to chance when implementing his ideas. He chose an exceptional patch of soil near Toledo, on the edge of the well-known “Cabañeros” nature reserve, and commissioned the well-known Australian winegrowing expert Dr. Richard Smart to plant the vineyards. 31 hectares of land were planted with typical Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties located 850 m above sea level in the Montes de Toledo. The continental climate with hot summers and cooler nights during the harvest phase is perfect for ripening the grapes and the formation of aromas in the final phase of ripening. An ambitious, young team of oenologists and wine experts produces here, in a modern cellar complex, exceptionally harmonious and profound wines that are now among the best produced in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula. Well-known wine critics such as Robert Parker and José Peñin did not wait long for top ratings.
