About the wine
In 1978, Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess acquired the winery in California. From the very beginning, organic viticulture played a major role. Instead of spraying weedkillers, goats are allowed to graze between the vines. Hess's large art collection is also located on the estate.

Tasting note
The wine, which comes in a very dark ruby red, shows aromas of red berries, black cherry, some tobacco and blackberries. On the palate, its acidity is evident in the background and the tannins are velvety soft.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with barbecue, smoked meats, duck breast and aged cheeses.
Vinification
12 months in used French oak barrels.
