The Smoky Twelve is the perfect combination of fruit, malt, oak and rich layers of smoke. Made from a combination of unpeated and peated whiskey and three barrels aged for at least twelve years in bourbon barrels, sherry barrels and Marsala wine barrels. The whiskies from the individual barrels are then expertly blended together to create a soft, creamy single malt, complex with aromas of ripe fruit, aromatic smoky sweetness and warming oak spice.

Tasting note
Creamy peat In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention in Speyside by returning to distilling old-style 19th century whiskey, using malted barley smoked with highland peat. This woody highland peat gives the peated Benriach whiskies a distinctive sweet and smoky note. The Benriach The Smoky Twelve was made from a combination of unpeated and peated whiskies aged for at least twelve years in bourbon barrels, sherry barrels and Marsala wine barrels. The whiskey from each barrel is then expertly blended together to create a smooth, creamy single malt that is coated with ripe fruit, aromatic smoked sweetness and warming oak seasoning and lingers in a cocoa and orange smoke finish — all in perfect balance.
Vinification
In the heart of Speyside A Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that is as fascinating and unusual as Benriach would have been inconceivable without a unique whiskey heritage from 1898, when founder John Duff set up his distillery. Benriach stands on the site of the old Riach farm in northern Speyside and draws water from a mineral-rich groundwater reservoir deep below the distillery. Thanks to a long-standing tradition of distilling whiskey — classic unpeated, Highland peated and triple distilled — and a unique selection of barrels from around the world, whiskey makers are able to explore the full flavor options of single malt and produce some of the richest, most complex whiskeys in Speyside. That tradition continues today under the leadership of Master Blender, Rachel Barrie. Benriach is the story of a hidden Speyside gem that quietly reveals its treasures to discover and enjoy.
