About the product

In the early 1970s, Benriach broke with Speyside region conventions and returned to the old-style 19th-century whiskey distillation, which involved smoking malted barley with Highland peat. This woody Highland peat gives Benriach's peated whiskies a distinctive sweet and smoky note. Benriach The Smoky Ten was made from a combination of unpeated and peated spirits and aged for at least ten years in a combination of bourbon barrels, Jamaican rum barrels and toasted wild oak in three barrels. The whiskey is then expertly blended together to create sublimely soft layers of sun-ripened fruit, aromatic smoke and roasted oak spice that last until the perfectly balanced sweet and smoky finish.

Tasting note
Smoky & sweet The Smoky 10 provides an ideal introduction to the unique peat character of Benriach's single malts, using a high proportion of the sweet and smoky highland peat. At a younger age, the smoky richness of the peat character is more pronounced and intense in taste. The Benriach The Smoky Ten was made from a combination of unpeated and peated brandies aged for at least ten years in a combination of bourbon barrels, barrels of Jamaican rum and roasted oak. The whiskey is then expertly blended together to create sublimely soft layers of sun-ripened fruit, aromatic smoke and roasted oak spice, which linger in the perfectly balanced sweet and smoky finish.
Vinification
In the heart of Speyside A Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that is as fascinating and unusual as Benriach would have been inconceivable without a unique whiskey heritage from 1898, when founder John Duff set up his distillery. Benriach stands on the site of the old Riach farm in northern Speyside and draws water from a mineral-rich groundwater reservoir deep below the distillery. Thanks to a long-standing tradition of distilling whiskey — classic unpeated, Highland peated and triple distilled — and a unique selection of barrels from around the world, whiskey makers are able to explore the full flavor options of single malt and produce some of the richest, most complex whiskeys in Speyside. That tradition continues today under the leadership of Master Blender, Rachel Barrie. Benriach is the story of a hidden Speyside gem that quietly reveals its treasures to discover and enjoy.
