About the product

The elegant Macallan Distillery is located on a hill near the banks of the River Spey and Craigellachie. Here, where the Spey runs fast in the shadow of the Grampian Mountains, the location and climate create unique conditions for whiskey production. Passion for quality has always been the trademark of The Macallan. Since its founding by Alexander Reid in northeast Scotland, The Macallan has impressed with excellence and perfection. The distillery's impressive reputation is based on an unparalleled quality product with an unmistakable character and world-class barrel management. The handpicked barrels are procured, manufactured, cared for and flavored by The Macallan under the watchful eye of the Master of Wood and finally filled with the “New Make Spirit”, the fresh distillate from The Macallan. All The Macallan whiskies owe 100% of their color to the wood of the barrels in which they mature. In 2018, The Macallan unveiled its new distillery on its Speyside estate. The impressive contemporary architecture, which is nestled on the slope of the property, follows the natural line of the Scottish hills. The new distillery marks an important milestone and heralds a new, exciting chapter in the history of this outstanding single malt.

Tasting note
Full-bodied and soft. The classic Macallan. Sherry Oak through and through. It gets its taste and color from the first-fill sherry barrels made of European and American oak, with a high proportion of Spanish sherry barrels.
Vinification
The Rolls-Royce among single malts. A whiskey with a reputation for being truly one of the world's best single malts. Founded in 1824, Macallan was one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland. Located on the banks of the Spey, the country estate with the mysterious name “Easter Elchie House” is gracefully situated on a hill near Craigellachie. Here, where the Spey runs fast in the shadow of the Grampian Mountains, the location and climate create unique conditions for whiskey production. The distillery was first licensed by Alexander Reid in 1824. The distillery initially ran as a sideline farm until it was taken over in 1882 by Roderick Kemp, whose family flourished the company over the following 100 years. The Macallan 12 Years Old Double Cask represents the perfect balance between exquisite sherry barrels made from American and European oak — a marriage of two different types of wood. The distinctive wood is American oak, with citrus and light oak notes, rounded off by the typical rich Macallan fruit aromas and woody spice. The wonderful interplay of woods is based on an incomparable quest for mastery — the trademark of The Macallan since 1824.
