About the product

Matthew Gloag founded the company Matthew Gloag & Sons in the 18th century — after taking over the food and wine business from his wife's family — where, among other things, he bought and distributed whiskeys from various distilleries. Grandson Matthew Gloag also created his first blended whiskey there in 1896 from various malt whiskies, including The Glenrothes, Highland Park Single Malt, Tamdhu and The Macallan Single Malt. Grain Whisky holds more than 65 percent of the shares. Expecting that many hunters would rest in Perth during the hunting season, he called his blend “The Grouse Brand” (grouse = grouse). His daughter Philippa designed the appropriate label with the Scottish national bird. The whiskey immediately sold so well that within just a few years the name “The Famous” was added and the term “Brand” was simply omitted. And that is the name of the popular whiskey to this day: The Famous Grouse.

Tasting note
The Famous Grouse stands for unrivalled skill in the art of blending. The secret is how the finest single malts such as The Macallan and Highland Park are married to exceptional grain whiskies in oak barrels over a long period of time.
