About the wine
The relatively new vine is perhaps the most famous in South Africa, at least in terms of wine exports. It was bred in 1925 by Professor A.I. Perold from Pinot Noir and Cinsault. The 275 hectare Simonsig Estate is located north-west of Stellenbosch, South Africa's famous first-class wine-growing region. Simonsig's wine tradition dates back to 1953 with wine pioneer Frans Malan. Today, the three sons Johan, François and Pieter run the winery.

Tasting note
Strong purple red. Distinctive blackberry and elderberry aromas with smoky notes. Round and supple tannin on the palate.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with wild pepper, stroganoff and all spicy meat dishes such as roast duck with chestnuts.
Vinification
Was removed in stainless steel tanks.
