About the wine

It couldn't be more unusual — and it couldn't be more brilliant. Philippe Guigal, a highly talented oenologist, runs the winery founded by his grandfather Etienne in 1946 in the Côtes du Rhône. Everything is exceptional here: the location on steep slopes with their carved terraces and the barren soils through which the vines get their water from a depth of 15 meters. The Guigal s always get the most out of the grapes and terroir, which is reflected in the quality in small quantities. The aging takes place in barriques from the in-house coopery. They get top prices for these wines: single-vineyard wines such as La Mouline and La Turque sell for up to 700 francs. Guigal is the winery with the most wines awarded 100 points by Robert Parker.

Tasting note
This balanced, fruity, rich wine is dark black-red with violet reflections. Its quite strong bouquet is dominated by aromas of cherry, sour cherry and ripe wild berries, plus notes of dried plum, clove and pepper. The first drink is dry and fresh, with a round, harmonious and fairly soft structure and precise berry fruit in the back smell, plus a touch of coffee, earthy and mineral notes.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled or fried lamb.
