About the wine
Andrea Cortonesi purchased a farmhouse with land in Castelnuovo dell'Abate at the end of 1986. The natural suitability of the soil for growing wine and olive trees, together with his entrepreneurial spirit, helped him to overcome difficult moments at the beginning. Immediately after the acquisition, Cortonesi began to make important changes to transform the property into a farm primarily dedicated to viticulture. The original name Uccelliera (bird house) was retained. In order to meet the need for new functional spaces for winemaking, expansion and storage, the existing buildings were basements without changing their characteristics. The vineyards cover approximately 6 hectares. They are planted with vines from a selected clone and have an increased plant density. The orientation of the rows, the careful handwork in the vineyard to maintain the balance of the vegetation and the thinning of the grapes make it possible to obtain perfectly ripened, healthy and aromatic berries. This is the essential requirement for a balanced, well-structured wine that is suitable for both short and long storage periods.
