Tasting note
The Altos de Rioja Pigeage 2020 shows a deep dark cherry red color. On the nose, an intense bouquet of ripe black fruits unfolds, complemented by notes of sweet spices, cocoa and roasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with ripe tannins and well-integrated acidity. The aftertaste is long and spicy, with an excellent balance between fruit and wood.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with grilled red meat, game dishes and aged cheese.
Vinification
The grapes come from old bush vines with low yields. After hand harvesting, the traditional pigeage technique (weaving in the pomace hat) is used to ensure optimal extraction. The wine ages in French oak barrels for 15 months, with the majority of the barrels being new.
