About the wine
Saumagen is one of the most famous Riesling sites in the world. The terroir is a spectacular mix of white and red soil, i.e. Terra Fusca in the topsoil and massive limestone rock in the subsoil. Sun-drenched southeast slope at the foot of the Palatinate Forest. The location is at the foot of the Haardt — the mountain range parallel to the Rhine on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest — at an altitude of between 160 and 200 meters above sea level.

Tasting note
Sparse and firm at the start, followed by notes of pear, quince, juniper and quartzite. Powerful and puristic with beautiful structure and substance.
Vinification
After manual harvesting (maximum yield of 40 hl per hectare), the selected grapes are gently pressed and then fermented slowly over several weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with natural yeasts. The wine is stored on the yeast in stainless steel tanks until shortly before bottling and thus gains in complexity and density.
