About the wine
This bottle was inspired by the “shaft and ball shape” of early English wine bottles. These spherical bottles were widely used in the mid-17th century and were hand-blown rather than made in molds. At this time, English bottles were made using coal as fuel, which produced higher temperatures than earlier wood stoves. This created sturdier bottles with thicker walls that could be used both for storage and serving. In the second half of the 17th century, the “shaft and spherical” bottle gradually developed into the “onion bottle,” which was used around the time Taylor was founded in 1692 and whose neck was shorter and whose body was more stocky.
