About the product

The 18-year-old single malt, named “Best Spirit in the World” by American whiskey expert F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal), is our highest award-winning whiskey. He received gold and an Ultimate Recommendation (with 96 points) at the International Spirits Challenge 2021. Aged in a high proportion of first-filled, sherry-soaked oak barrels from Europe and America, this outstanding 18-year-old honors our five production principles. It develops an elegant blend of ripe cherries, slightly bitter cocoa, fresh honeycomb and candied orange peel, accompanied by a whiff of salty sea breeze in a smoky peat aroma.

Tasting note
The 18-year-old Highland Park is surprisingly smoky with hints of sherry and oak. The full-bodied taste leads to a complex, long aftertaste. He rightly wins medals at BLINDVER tastings time and again.
Vinification
Scotland's northernmost distillery The Highland Park distillery is located on the Orkney Islands off the northernmost tip of Scotland. Their whiskeys, as well as their island home, are shaped by the wild climate, the stormy seas and the Vikings, who settled here over 1,000 years ago and left their mark on people and culture. Magnus Eunson, founder of Highland Park was a direct descendant of the Vikings. Butchers and church workers by day, smugglers by night, he distilled in a small hut near High Park with a view of Kirkwall — where the distillery still stands today. Officially, Highland Park was founded in 1798, but in reality this was the year in which the authorities were finally able to catch Magnus — whiskey had already been made before that. With the exception of smuggling, very little has changed since then. Highland Park remained true to its founder's high quality standards and shares with him his bold and uncompromising approach. In fact, you could say that Highland Park is a whiskey made the old way by a new generation of Vikings. The five pillars of Highland Park are: aromatic peat, hand-malted barley, sherry oak barrels, cool storage, barrel harmonization.
