The first documentary mentions of the Maximin Grünhaus winery date back to February 966. Since 1882, the von Schubert family has cultivated the vineyards beautifully situated on a range of hills near the Moselle and Ruwer rivers. The wines are part of Germany's wine Olympus. They unmistakably represent their origins and come exclusively from the Maximin Grünhaus monopolies Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg. The Herrenberg location covers a total of 19 hectares and is similar to the Abtsberg in many ways. The soil conditions and orientation are very similar; Devonian slate dominates. In the past, the wines from this location were somewhat overshadowed by the wines of the Abtsberg. However, due to changing climatic conditions, the Rieslings of the two sites are in no way inferior in quality today. Herrenberg wines are also extremely adaptable and can mature over decades. Kabinett wines are the wine region's classic. Light and fresh, delicately fruity with slight residual sweetness and finely balanced with low alcohol, the Herrenberg is great drinking fun when young or even after many years of bottle aging.
