Tasting note
The Penfolds Great Grandfather Tawny has a deep dark mahogany brown color with intense olive green notes. On the nose, an extremely concentrated and complex bouquet of raisined fruit, caramel and malt appears. Fine, slightly nutty notes of rancio, vanilla, oak and a touch of alcohol give these notes even more length. On the palate, the exquisite quality and its long period of maturation are unmistakable: incredibly intense, aromatic, smooth, with perfect elegance and finesse, perfect balance of lush fruit and fine rancio, complex richness and an extremely long, slightly dry finish.

Selected batches of Grandfather-Solera wines, which are around twenty years old, are aged for a further ten years, so that this tawny finally reaches an average age of more than 30 years.
