After the failed attempt to regain the Scottish throne from the English in 1745, Prince Charles Edward Stuart fled to France. Before that, he gave his secret recipe to the MacKinnon family. The elixir quickly became known as Dram Buidheach — the drink that makes you happy. Typical full-bodied malt taste combined with herbs and honey — a poem! Drambuie is the perfect base for cocktails, but is also a real treat on its own or on ice. The “Rusty Nail” is certainly the most famous Drambuie cocktail and is still one of the classics of every whiskey bar today.
