With «The Race» and «Oh Yeah,» Dieter Meier and his band Yello shaped the beginnings of electronic music. But he was ahead of his time not only as a musician. In 1997, the Zurich native acquired a historic farm in the Argentinian pampas and began producing organic beef and wine. Today, Dieter Meier owns three wineries: Ojo de Agua in Mendoza, Ojo Negro in Patagonia, and Ojo de Ibiza on the Balearic island. Since 2023, the wineries have been run by his children Eleonore, Anna, Sophie, and Francis.
Dieter Meier is and remains a visionary who constantly reinvents himself. Today he is known as a musician, artist, actor, writer, winemaker, cattle breeder, chocolatier, restaurateur… With so many professions and callings, one might imagine a man rushing from one appointment to the next. But far from it! Dieter Meier spends months in the seclusion of his farm in the Argentine Pampa, where – as he says – it is “wonderfully boring.” There, the bon vivant finds the time and space to hatch new ideas.
For his winery, he has a clear vision: “Our goal is to produce the best organic wines in the world – and that is possible in Argentina!” says the globetrotter. The country has fascinated him since his first visit as a young man.
From Salta at 3,000 meters above sea level in the north of the country, across the Mendoza valleys in the Cuyo region, down to the end of the world in Patagonia: Dieter Meier has searched the entire land to find Argentina’s best soils. And so, today, his organic wines travel the world just like the legendary beats and lyrics of Yello once did. PURO & Co. have long since become a phenomenon, just like their creator.
