About the wine

The family winery in southern Sicily was only founded in the 90s in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento. The owners are the cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of the internationally renowned oenologist Carlo Corino (2007), turned the old winery into a top Italian business with cutting-edge cellar technology. Autochthonous and international grape varieties are cultivated on over 360 hectares of vineyards in six different wine-growing zones in Sicily, with particular attention being paid to cultivating the right grape variety in the right soil. Their motto is to provide a modern interpretation of historical traditions and grape varieties. Here and also when producing their excellent olive oil, environmental compatibility is very important to them. For Robert Parker, Planeta is considered the reference asset of this region par excellence. Planeta is the high-starter in Sicily. In the “Gambero Rosso Vini dItalia 1999" wine guide, the winery was named number one of the year. Fiano, an old grape variety originally from Campania, is wonderfully expressed in Cometa when fully aged. The characteristic character of this variety is its own, intense and fruity scent with beautiful minerality and a fine acid structure.

Tasting note
Deep straw yellow with green reflections, intense aromatic nuances, primarily of litchies, nectarines, pineapple, tangerines and peppermint, accompanied by herbal notes such as chamomile and wild thyme. Rich, elegant and soft on the palate with a long-lasting, aromatic finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with hearty fish tartare, pasta with cream cheese or seafood, duck breast, porcini mushrooms and goat cheese.
Vinification
Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 15°C for 20 days.
