About the wine

In 1982, Guido Fantino and the Conterno brothers founded the joint company Conterno Fantino on the Bricco Bastia hill with a wonderful view over Monforte d'Alba. Previously, as employees of a well-known winery, the young entrepreneurs had cultivated the family-owned vineyards in prime locations after work and sold the grapes to various producers. The new, proprietary wines quickly became a success thanks to concentrated know-how. In the cellar, you work with traditional (large wooden barrels) and modern elements - a combination that is implemented skillfully and with great skill.

Tasting note
Mosconi is one of the most sought after locations in Monforte d'Alba, right off the Ginestra, where Conterno Fantino has been “at home” since its beginnings with Sorì Ginestra and Vigna del Gris. The Vigna Ped was built on the Bricco Mosconi in the early fifties. Conterno Fantino was able to purchase this vineyard in the immediate vicinity of the location where Domenico Clerico produces his Percristina. The first harvest already showed remarkable peculiarities: The berries are particularly small, the young must of unbelievable color intensity and the aroma also deviates from the usual image of a young Barolo. There are two reasons for this: First, it is the steep south-southeast and well-drained hillside with its manganese and lime-rich subsoil. The second reason is the vines themselves, which consist of an old clone of Nebbiolo that until then could only be found here. Barolo Mosconi is strong, broad-shouldered, with a good tannin structure embedded in lots of soft extracts.
