About the wine
Perched high above the majestic banks of the Douro, Quinta Boavista is an outstanding winery dedicated entirely to the authentic expressiveness of its terroir. Under the direction of Ricardo Macedo and with the expertise of Jean-Claude Berrouet — the legendary oenologist at Château Pétrus — red wines of remarkable depth, balance and elegance are produced here. Each cuvée embodies the claim to the highest quality and combines Portuguese tradition with Bordeaux precision to express the unique complexity of great Douro wines. Alicante Bouschet occupies a special position among the carefully cultivated grape varieties. The vines grow on north-east-facing terraces, which are protected from the intense afternoon sun — ideal conditions for balanced growth and slow, even ripening. Originally from France, from a cross between Petit Bouschet and Grenache, Alicante Bouschet is one of the most famous color-intensive varieties and is now considered “the most Portuguese of all foreign grape varieties.” In the soils and climate of the Douro, they produce wines with deep color, harmonious structure, high concentration and excellent aging potential. At Quinta Boavista, Alicante Bouschet shows all its expressiveness — powerful and elegant at the same time.
