About the wine

Gioia del Colle is located in the west of the province of Bari, in the municipality of Acquaviva delle Fonti. The winery is based in an old farmhouse, which was purchased by Filippo Cassano in 2003. He set the goal of producing organically certified and high-quality wines thanks to the vineyards created in the middle and end of the 19th century and to give the reputation of autochthonous varieties a higher reputation. The vines, some of which are over 60 years old, are grown as small trees in the Alberello system, are surrounded by cultivated land with dark brown soil, from which the name Polvanera (black dust) is derived. In addition to the main Primitivo variety, Aglianico, Fiano Minutolo, Moscato, Falanghina and Aleatico are also grown and harvested by hand on the 5 hectares. Cassano's investments and work and passion have led to its Primitivo DOC status here. In its Primitivo series, the additional name 17 indicates the approximate alcohol content of the wine (14, 16 and 17!).

Tasting note
Dense purple, very intense scent of dark berries, plums but also licorice. Impressive start on the palate, lush and rich but without heaviness. Surprisingly elegant and fresh and “drinkable” thanks to a mineral vein, a small masterpiece. Extremely persistent in the aftertaste and aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Von den Flaschenpöstlern empfohlen: 17° Primitivo Gioia del Colle DOC harmoniert hervorragend mit Pizza, Risotto und rotem Fleisch.
Vinification
The grapes come exclusively from vines kept in the traditional Alberello form with a yield of 3000 kg per hectare. Manual harvesting, fermentation takes around 20 days. Before bottling, the young wine ages in steel tanks for 12 months.
